Day 5

Day 5 – Lalibela – Jacob and Frank

Salam. Today was full of successful endeavours: large (tillic) hills conquered, coffees and teas enbibed, songs sung in dramatic harmony and, yet again, food devoured. An inevitible early start was followed by a strenuous ascent of a tillic tower, t’was the hill behiund Lalibela town. The group, filled with hearty breakfasts of eggs, pancakes and other delights from the Lalibela Hotel, we made the ascent at a steady pace. Three hours later, passing small villages and lots of people breaking rocks for the new cobbled stone streets we all arrived at our final destination, with a real sense of achievement.

Before the descent, we were invited into the home of a family within the small hillside settlement. After an eye-opening tour of the small mud hut, the family treated us to a traditional coffee ceremony, with some local children attending. A few selfies and clapping games later we began our walk down the rocky incline and headed back to the hotel.

Meeting as a group, following a quick recess, we decided to drive to the ‘unique restaurant’. Cosy, relaxed and in high spirits we enjoyed a delicious meal, local preparations of coffee, popcorn and the top banter of the owner, Sisco.

Retaining high moral we reluctantly departed. The night reached a climax as ballads were belted from the mouths of all and laughs shared on the returning drive. At the hotel we reflected on our team effort and an overall fantastic day.

Missing and sending love to all. This is the time of our lives.

Chow for now.
