Day 9 – Walk to Geech – Matthew and Jake
We were awoken at the crack of dawn by the smell of sweet porridge cooking close by before We packed our bags hastily. After a quick breakfast and mass clean up we were off on the road to Geech.
The terrain was mountainous, with steep hills and beautiful valleys, covered in vegetation. This amazing landscape was set to get even better when we took a detour to see the highest waterfall in Africa, feeding vast amounts of water from the mountainside into the river below.
We continued walking to Geech until Lunchtime, were we sat and watched Gilada baboons as we ate. What an amazing experience! Sitting within a few metres of these shy creatures; We all felt so Priveledged to be able to do so.
After lunch we crossed the riverĀ and commenced up the steep incline towards Geech. We arrived in time to get the tents up and fire going before the rains came. Geech was like stepping back in time into a medieval village, so isolated that the peoples way of life hadn’t changed for centuries
After a fantastic meal, co-ordinated by Sophie, we were all ready for a good night’s sleep, looking forward to tommorrows hike!
